The emergency department is a seven-bed unit with capabilities for seclusion and negative pressure respiratory isolation. Staffed 24/7 by the ED Medical Director or a Physician Assistant in collaboration with a blend of RN’s, LPN’s and the assistance of a nurse aide clerk. Typical patient census varies from 35 to 40 per 24 hours. Patients of all age groups, present with the full spectrum of illnesses as is customary for any Emergency Department. Services range from providing life saving care to episodic primary care. Staff participates in Quality Improvement studies, attend monthly in-services and demonstrate competency in department specific topics and equipment. The staff in the Emergency Department works well as a team striving to deliver quality care and at the same time provide maximum customer satisfaction. The staff collaborates with ancillary departments as well as community agencies to achieve these goals. The AHMC Emergency Department staff takes great pride in their unit, welcoming new ideas and challenges to support the medical centers mission, vision and values.
