Alice Hyde Medical Center Earns ACR Accreditation

Alice Hyde Medical Center’s (AHMC) Medical Imaging Department has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) as the result of a review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of medical imaging quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. “Alice Hyde Medical Center has voluntarily undergone a rigorous review process to ensure that we continue to meet nationally accepted standards of care,” said Douglas F. DiVello, FACHE, AHMC President/CEO.
Additionally, image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. “This achievement recognizes the exceptional care and expertise of our Medical Imaging team and the services they provide our patients every day,” said DiVello. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce three-dimensional images of internal body parts.  CT scanning is also a noninvasive medical test using a sophisticated x-ray procedure. Multiple images are taken during a CT scan, and a computer compiles them into pictures of soft tissue, bone, and blood vessels. Both tests help physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
